During the February 2019 Grammy’s, Alicia Keys introduced Janelle Monae and said, “She’s got the world looking at pink the way we should.” Pink was a primary color in the presentation of her song, “The Way You Make Me Feel.”

For a large part of my life, I shied away from this color. Immersing myself in art making starting in pivotal 2010, it emerged and persisted. Embracing pink as a symbol for femininity and self-love reinforced my driving force that I matter and to stay steadfast on my course of autonomy.
