These words emerged in my creative process in the throes of feeling abandonment, betrayal, and disillusionment. They act as a reminder of what this life’s journey is for me, of self-reflection, working, reworking and refining my experiences moment by moment, expanding consciousness, being free and integrated, experiencing love and compassion, transcendence and emergence.
Petitioner Vs. Respondent And Oops
This piece was the catalyst for discovering my first Oops. After frantically and repeatedly writing and layering Petitioner vs. Respondent in cursive, torturous thoughts in my mind were released and replaced with a mere Oops. During my popup show, a young lady, a marketing professional and DJ, looked at my series of pink paintings and blurted out, “OMG, this is about smashing the patriarchy!” Although catching me by surprise, she so aptly interpreted and perfectly expressed my creative force. Preliminary mission accomplished!

With all eyes and ears on the latter, let’s remember the antiquated operating system and extremely divisive, destructive behavior of the senate majority leader. With leading the GOP’s no-compromise pledge and promise to do “everything” they can to block President Obama, hijacking the Supreme Court, changing laws to support right-wing agenda, eliminating human rights, etc., etc., etc., he has to go too!

Someone recently remarked that many of my art pieces look distinctly different as if done by various artists. Putting myself in a box is neither appealing nor resonating, and I certainly don’t want anyone else to put me in a box. My rhythm is to flow with the every-changing creative force moment by moment.
I don’t want to be told what to do or how to do it. To quote Henry David Thoreau, “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” (Of course, my interpretation includes all human beings.)
At a certain point in my marriage, I started to say with utmost clarity, “I was not put on this earth to follow you.” To be sure, this was frustrating for both of us! And, although, I did not utter these words to my mother or female siblings, I appropriately could have as the theme of this lifetime’s journey is my autonomy; learning non-capitulation and experiencing the freedom to live my live as a luminous warrior. Just is.
Pink - Emergence Continued
During the February 2019 Grammy’s, Alicia Keys introduced Janelle Monae and said, “She’s got the world looking at pink the way we should.” Pink was a primary color in the presentation of her song, “The Way You Make Me Feel.”
“It’s a celebratory song,” Monae explained to The Guardian. I hope that comes across. That people feel more free, no matter where they are in their lives, that they feel celebrated. Because I’m about women’s empowerment. I’m about agency. I’m about being in control of your narrative and your body. For a large part of my life, I shied away from this color. Immersing myself in art making starting in pivotal 2010, it emerged and persisted. Embracing pink as a symbol for femininity and self-love reinforced my driving force that I matter and to stay steadfast on my course of autonomy.
